What do Valentine's Day and Life Insurance have in common?

What do Valentine's Day and Life Insurance have in common?

What do Valentines Day and life Insurance have in common? Thinking about your loved ones of course! Valentine's day will be a little different this year in many parts of the world, – dinner date by zoom anyone? Or maybe a new face mask? We in NZ, however, as Instagram and the news remind us frequently, are fortunate enough to be in a position of freedom and can enjoy romantic meals out and shopping in person.

That doesn't mean you have to though! If 2020 taught us anything, it was that life is unexpected. And what could be better than an unexpected gift of life insurance for Valentine's day? Not on your partner's life, obviously - that would be less than subtle, but on your own life. The message then becomes, even if I'm not here any longer or if I'm sick and can't work, I want you looked after. It's the ultimate gift that keeps on giving, even after you're gone.

Valentine's day has been gradually gaining favour in NZ. Retailers have embraced another day to flog product and guilt us into buying flowers and 'stuff' that will mean our loved ones feel genuinely appreciated. From flowers to chocolates to 'manly' gifts of bacon and power tools, there's nothing that tells your loved one how much you really, really love them like spending your hard-earned cash.

But what if you took a different view, a more long-term approach?

If you’re fit and healthy you can sort out life insurance online in less than 10 minutes (with Pinnacle Life of course). No need to find your COVID-19 scanner app to hit the shops. In the time it takes to scan you could have a quote for life cover. Add in the time it takes to find a car park and getting life cover online is starting to look really appealing. If we still watched TV with ads, I would go so far to say as you could get covered in the ad breaks, so maybe watch some TV on demand tonight instead of Netflix and get it sorted.

If you want to get fancy, you could simply print your policy document and draw a big red heart on it or pop it in an envelope, and you're done. Double points because its only February and you've ticked off something on your 'to do in 2021' list already.

Of course, if you really want to be traditional, we can help with that too. Here are the top 10 Valentine's day gifts for 2021 according to Urban List.

  1. Pair of Vans
  2. Flowers and Cake Jars specifically from Sweet Talk
  3. Perfume – Goldfield and Banks from Sephora
  4. RM Williams duffle bag
  5. Lululemon yoga mat
  6. Locally designed jewellery
  7. Tickets to see Van Gogh Alive
  8. Silk pyjamas
  9. Wallet or Handbag from Deadly Ponies
  10. Father Rabbit Valentine's Day Gift Box
  11. Silk Pillowcases from Ecosa
Go on, be a little untraditional and a bit more thoughtful and get your life insurance sorted.
