Walks of New Zealand to add to your Bucket List

Walks of New Zealand to add to your Bucket List

When it comes to taking out a life insurance policy, it’s about protecting the ones you leave behind should the day come sooner than expected. You are protecting the life you have made for yourself and your family. But protecting your life also comes from living your life to the fullest and experiencing all the great adventures it has to offer. These adventures come in all shapes and sizes, but where better to set out on your next adventure than the great trails of Aotearoa, sitting right on your doorstep. Let’s look at some of the country’s most memorable walks you simply must add to your kiwi bucket list!

Abel Tasman Coast Track, South Island

Located in the Abel Tasman National Park at the top of the South Island, this trail is known for its 30 miles of golden beaches making it one of the most tropical trails you can walk in New Zealand. The ‘beach hike’ takes about 3-5 days to walk with a grading of introductory to moderate in terms of difficulty. With so much on offer in the park, it is well worth staying a few extra days either before or after your walk. Take the time to explore the crystal-clear bays, bustling with plenty of wonderful wildlife.

Tuatapere Hump Ridge Track, South Island

This track is known for its signature kiwi blend of nature and heritage. Here lies the perfect adventure, winding across some of the country’s wildest landscapes providing breathtaking views through Fiordland national park, ancient forest, and deserted coastline. Located at the bottom of the South Island, the track is roughly 61km in length taking roughly 3 days to walk and it is graded moderate to challenging. This walk is recommended to those with a reasonable level of fitness with longer walking days, but all worth it for the stunning panoramic views of Fiordland, the Southern Ocean, and Stewart Island.

The Pinnacles, North Island

Located upriver from Thames in the beautiful Kaueranga Valley of the Coromandel Peninsula, The Pinnacles is one of the most popular overnight hikes in New Zealand with an intermediate grade of difficulty, known to be suitable for children and also short enough to do in a (long) day trip if you fancy getting your hiking adventure squeezed into just the one day. If you would rather spend the night, there is a hut just below the summit which is one of the country’s most popular DoC huts with many beds and a comfortable spacious common area. This is also perfect for catching the beautiful sunrise from the summit the following morning.

Queen Charlotte Track, South Island

Known for its aesthetic coastline and native bush, the Queen Charlotte Track stretches over 70km long providing stunning panoramic views of the sea along with encounters with native wildlife such as wood pigeons, seals, and Fantail. This trail is in Marlborough, one hour south of Picton at the top of the South Island. The track takes about 3-5 days to complete and is classed as a moderate trip in difficulty and provides accommodation in waterside lodges and resorts along the trail to provide added comfort while you discover this beautiful bay.

These are just some of the amazing adventures Aotearoa has to offer. Whether you tackle only one of these walks this next year, it is one of the best ways to enjoy Aotearoa’s natural beauty and kiwi company. At Pinnacle Life, we believe in living in the moment and taking advantage of the gift that is the present. Don’t wait to run out of time!

Sort your insurance

If the unexpected does occur, sorting your life insurance can mean that your bucket list can become a reality even when it seems like you’ve left it too late. A Critical Illness benefit pays out if the insured person suffers a critical illness or condition for the first time. The list of covered illnesses includes cancer, stroke, heart attack as well as other less common illnesses.

Some people will choose to use the money from their benefit to pay off their mortgage or other debts. But it can also be used to take a holiday or fund alternative treatments including those not covered by other insurance. This means if there is treatment available in other countries, sometimes Critical Illness Cover can make that treatment possible.
